Magical Bodywork for Your Whole Self -- Online & In-person

About Ian

This work is about your body. This work is about your mind. This work is about your emotions.

This work is about you.

This work is about directly experiencing the holistic completeness and functioning of your being.

As a culture, we’ve thankfully been slowly moving away from the concept that mind and body are separate. We’re more willing to believe that mind and body are related, perhaps even inseparable except through words. Through this work you can directly experience the unity of your mind, body and emotions and learn how to consciously and positively influence all three simultaneously.

To help you I draw on my extensive background in movement education. I began my career as a dancer after finishing college. After moving to New York City I spent the next 13 years there studying movement and behavior. I continued training in dance and also studied yoga, Feldenkrais, Pilates, Gryotonic, Melt Method, Shen Tao, tai chi, Yamuna Body Roller, sound therapy, meditation and various other mind/body modalities.

The thread that connects these modalities in this work is the Alexander Technique, which has at its foundation the belief that your body knows how to move and work fairly well and would work even better if you stopped unconsciously interfering with it!

Ian is truly a healing artist. In just one session, Ian not only helped me identify the emotional states and triggers that aggravate my chronic back pain, he also coached me through the process of “letting go” of the resultant muscle tension. Some of the knots in my muscles have been there for over a decade, and with Ian’s gentle, warm guidance, for the first time in my life I found that I could relax and dismantle those knots on my own. With just his voice and the occasional guiding touch, Ian made me feel like I had just had the best massage of my life (without even getting a massage)—and gave me the tools to really help manage my pain on my own, no matter where I am.

What’s present in you right now? What needs attention?

I have struggled for years with neck pain from a car accident. Yoga, massage therapy, and various approaches to strength training have helped but never fully resolved the problem. Learning the Alexander Technique with Ian has profoundly improved my situation and, as a bonus, made Yoga, massage therapy, and strength training even more helpful. It’s given me a sense of control over my trouble spots, instead of always being controlled by them. And it’s given me a sense of joy by helping me regain a more relaxed and flexible mind set. I’d seen the testimonials of people claiming that the Alexander Technique had been “life changing” but never quite believed it. Thanks to Ian, I believe it now. It has, indeed, changed my life.
